the weekend has been super busy! but i loved it!

we saw KING KONG, had dinner at jack's loft, had a small gathering over at chewy's place, went to bed club and andre's birthday party. started saturday at 5 pm.. got home sunday at 5 pm! gone 24 hours.. a picture is worth a thousand words.. i'll give you a few thousand!! :)

whew! yesterday was such a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

we played badminton over at valle verde with coach gerard and mother click.. about 3 hours straight.. super tiring!

then we went home, got changed and went straight to glorietta to catch the last full show of "ang pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros". i've seen that movie last july when it was first shown on Cinemalaya, an indie film festival. LOVED IT! and so when they played it on theaters, it was the perfect opportunity to tag dj along and see it again.. :D

then we went to segafredo and had our fave "softdrink", smirnoff ice and some pizza to go with it.. ahaha.. :D

waaaaaaaahh.. finals week coming up.. i have heaps and heaps of projects to finish.. i need to come up with a lingerie collection (halfway done!), a garment ensemble (about to start!), 80 fully rendered fashion illustrations (just the thought of it makes me tired), clothes.. clothes.. and more clothes!!

waaaaahhh!!!! i've been eating chickenjoy for 3 days straight. for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!! except last night cause i had dinner at shakey's with some friends but i still ordered chicken.

OMG!!!! i feel so heavy.. i saw the video captured by UNTV about the *alleged* car-nappers and how the policemen shot them all to death.. WITHOUT MERCY!! they were all lying lifeless already and yet they were shot again and again and again..

one of the three who were killed happened to be my friend. I FEEL SO HEAVY..

when i got the text from my badminton team mate, I WAS SO SHOCKED! i thought, "how can anyone joke about this kind of thing?". i wouldn't dare believe it.. until i saw it on tv.. and then it was like a huge bomb dropped on me..

i got to know ANTON CU UNJIENG because he's also part of the CSB Badminton Team. i remember him to be a very JOLLY and CHEERFUL person.. he's one of those people who'd go out of their way to make sure everyone is having a good time. he'd say "hi" to me whenever he sees me along the corridors.. and whenever he does, he never fails to brighten my day..

i can't believe this sort of thing could happen to people like him. he doesn't deserve this..

CONDOLENCES TO THE CU UNJIENG FAMILY.. my sincerest and deepest sympathy..

WOW! last saturday was a total blast!!! i found it to be a most exhausting and most physically draining day..

i woke up around noon and immediately started stitching the final details of my costume. around 5 pm DJ came over and we played badminton! we soooo love the sport!!! it was really tiring to play for almost 5 straight hours!!! LOVED IT!!!

and thenwe got home at around 11 PM.. took a quick shower and went to a friend's birthday party.. at this point, we were wearing our gimik clothes.. i thought it's not exactly difficult to slip on a robe and a capelet.. we stayed until 1:30 AM and we went to HELL BALL at government.. we got there at around 2 AM.. from the parking we put on our costumes and it took us no more than 5 minutes.. ahaha..

it was nice to see lots of people in costumes.. some spent a lot for it too.. but i was happy with mine.. i wanted to go as a VIRGIN (duh!) so i made myself a bishops costume. ahihihi.. it was a fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun night.. i met new people (a couple of hot guys too!) and made new friends..

we left government around 5 AM and headed straight to NORTH PARK to eat breakfast.. this cutie korean guy tagged along.. he's soooooooo cute.. and he speaks mandarin cause he stayed in shanghai for a year.. his mandarin is actually better than his english.. i got to practice my mandarin the whole night cause i seem to be the only person who can understand and converse with him.. ALTHOUGH there were major bloopers! ahahaha.. and most of the time i had to repeat everything i said twice because my pronunciation is not very clear.. LOL!!! it was fun at least.. :D

i'll post pics as soon as i get hold of them.. i seem to have lost my digital camera.. *sigh*.. luckily, a couple other friends brought theirs and they were nice enough to lend it to me.. i'm just waiting for my friend to burn me a copy.. :D

i don't have classes on fridays.. for this term at least!

i thought i'd just bum around the house and catch up on some sleep. but then it suddenly occurred to me that tomorrow (29 oct 2005, saturday) is halloween ball! yippeeeeee!!!! but i still don't have a costume. last week my best bud dj and i decided to go as priests (since we're both *claiming to be* virgins). ahahaha..

and so i had to start drafting patterns for my costume. DJ's already got his white robe (luckily!! less trouble for me!) so all i had to make for him is that little sash that hangs around the shoulder. fortunately for him, i still have some extra satin fabric.

it wasn't as difficult as expected. i finished my white robe today.. i'll just have to finish my chabusle which is something like a capelet that's draped around the body.. only high ranking priests can wear it!! i suppose it goes without saying that i'll go as a higher ranking priest compared to DJ! and it means i'm a WHOLE LOT MORE VIRGIN (if ever there's such a thing). ahahaha.. I LOVE YOU, DJ! you're such a dear! *muaaah*

i'm so excited tomorrow.. ahihihi..

but before we go to that party we'll play badminton over at greenhills badminton center at around 5 pm. which means we'll be home (my place, which dj already considers home) by 10 pm giving us ample time to prepare for the halloween ball. we plan to leave the house at half past twelve and don't expect to be back until around 10 AM the following morning. ahahahahahahaha...

what a lazy and boring friday!

i woke up at around 12:40 PM and immediately texted ziggy to ask him what the plan was. we agreed to watch "the corpse bride" the previous day over at gateway.. but he said he had to go to school to see some models..

oh well..

so i just bummed lazily at home.. thinking of things to do.. and i thought of going to the gym since i had nothing to do anyway..

just as i was packing my stuff, my phone rang..

i was surprised to see the name of my "used-to-be" special friend. he said he didn't have anything to do and would be very much pleased if we could meet up.. he's a dermatologist by the way.

well, i agreed to meet up with him on the condition that we meet up at my place! LOL! i didn't want to go out cause i'm too lazy to get dressed..

it was good to see him again.. he's actually the only "used-to-be" special friend of mine that i still get to talk to.. the others.. well, i just couldn't be bothered! i'm just so glad we're still friends after what we've been through..

we saw a couple of movies on dvd.. chatted a great deal.. drove to starbucks katipunan cause he's a huge starbucks fan.. still i didn't get dressed.. wehehehe.. it's just starbucks anyway!! i couldn't care less!!

then we headed back to my place..

and just before he left, he told me he still remembers the formula for my skin type! talk about free derma sessions! i'm starting to miss it!!

and so he went back to his car to fetch his huge box of solutions he takes with him wherever he goes..

TADAH!!

i still remember the burning hot stinging sensation.. it brought back lots of memories..

and now, my skin is all red and starting to peel! ouch!!! it's like a snake shedding it's skin.. ahahaha..

i'm thankful i still have him as my friend.. :D

Paolo and the Beauties of the Earth

earlier today, Jihan and I went to the Miss Earth 2005 Press Conference!

Miss Mitali asked us yesterday to go in her place. And we happily agreed! :D

but of course, there were some bloopers! The press con was held at the Hyatt Hotel somewhere in Pedro Gil.. for some stupid reason, we went all the way to the OTHER Hyatt Hotel along Roxas Boulevard.. ahahaha.. what a waste of time! :D

Luckily we weren't late as press cons don't usually start on time..

Security was really tight! GOSH! i thought they weren't gonna let us in.. well, they almost didn't let us in.. BUT OF COURSE!!! people from all over the world were present!! security has to be IN CHECK! they can't afford something bad happening with all the guests there!!

The security boys wouldn't let anyone in without specified stickers or ID's.. and we didn't know where to get those! Miss Mitali didn't say anything about having stickers.. so i rang her up in the middle of her class! and then, this CUTIE walked past us.. and then he asked us, "are you from CSB?"

BINGO!!!!

and so we said "yes!"

he told us to go the secretariat and sign our names and then they'd give us STICKERS! yey!!!

so we went to the secretariat and then we were waiting patiently for our turn.. and the same cutie guy WALKS INSIDE the office.. he tells this girl to give us stickers.. the lady seemed bitchy but she has to follow orders! ahahaha..

so finally, we got through the TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT security.. and we just enjoyed ourselves..

we took pictures, chatted with some of the candidates.. they're all so pretty!!! well, most of them.. :D

Miss Nicaragua gave me this MAHOGANY SEEDLING.. and Jihan got one too from Miss.. uhhh.. i don't remember..

i have no idea where i'd plant it.. i'm thinking of actually sending it to our mango farm in bulacan.. :D

and then it was time to head back to school.. but before we went back, i convinced Jihan to ask cutie guy what his name is.. LOL!!!

so she was like.. "hey, excuse me, thanks for helping us kanina.. we wouldn't be able to get in if not for you.. chenez cheverlez chemeru chika.. by the way, what's your name?"

wow.. looks like monday divi trips are turning into a really bad habit!!!

wehehe.. everytime we go to divi.. i always have to buy something for myself.. i mean.. duh.. we're supposed to buy fabrics for our projects..

and i'm supposed to be saving up some money cause christmas is near! :D

anyway, cadd-02 class was great. i learned to use that draping program. i really enjoyed it. i know i'll be able to use it when i start my own production company.. to have my own company (something like bench) is my dream.. along with a specialty clothing shop.. but i won't be specializing in couture wear cause money is in mass production, hunny! :D

looking forward to friday next week.. i'm gonna get my hair cut.. and i hope it turns out ok.. i'm gonna try out this new salon.. i'm still thinking it over whether i'd have my hair dyed.. but right now i'm leaning towards not having it dyed.. ehehe.. :D

wow.. things you do when you're bored...

well, when i'm bored i always surf the net just so i find something interesting to READ! i love reading.. i read all sorts of books.. just as long as they're entertaining.. but if the book is boring.. i'd just drop it in an instant.. i also like reading articles and write-ups because it gives me a glimpse into other people's minds. :D

the first article actually made it's debut on my blog almost a year ago.. i was just browsing my past entries and i stumbled upon this.. i thought i'd post it again since it's been a while and more people have been reading my blog.. although some are just too shy to leave messages on the tagboard.. :D

LIVING ON

To move on means we cherish the good and the beautiful that was there but recognise too that we need not be prisoners of our past. But we to forgive them and even ourselves and grieve our losses. Otherwise we run the danger of repeating the same cycle all over again.

Han and I were sitting at the back of the taxi on our way to a poetry reading by one of his friends. As he placed his feet on my lap, I asked, “What are three things a person should bear in mind when recovering from a breakup?”

As usual, wanting to provoke my thinking process, he didn’t give a straight answer and we nearly descended into one of our ‘we can’t work together’ disagreements. But we managed to steer clear this time as he answered, “The first thing I’d tell a person is, ‘it’s going to be more painful than you ever thought.”

I remember one of the first times I met Han, he told me that prior to meeting me that day he had waited for over three hours for a friend who did not turn up. He looked dejected as he held a present he had bought for that friend lifelessly in his hands. I only realised much later that this friend was in reality his boyfriend who had just broken up with him. It was a relationship that Han had put a lot of effort into including even preparing to move to another country for the sake of the relationship. It took him over eight months to come to grips with his loss.

Breaking up can even be worse than losing a partner to death. There is a finality to death. But in a breakup, especially in a community as connected as ours – your common friends have to decide how to manage their relationships with you and your ex and every now and again you risk running into your ex. Every time your paths cross, you wonder if it could have been different. Then if you see him or her move on before you are able to, another stab of searing pain pierces through.

I am fortunate to have come from a family that is expressive. We have never felt the need to hide our pain. Having seen my dad and mum cry numerous times has been a blessing for me. I never saw it as a weakness. In fact, I once read that a true sign of strength is the ability to cry in a way that allows our grief to surface to be dealt with. Too many of us bury it deep inside and pretend it doesn’t hurt or propel ourselves into the next available relationship. But in doing that we harden ourselves and lessen our ability to feel. Then after a few more breakups, a jadedness sets in.

After a breakup you need to find someone who can stand with you – it can be a friend or a counselor. Just make sure it is someone who is gay affirming and who is not uncomfortable with grief. You will need your friends. But then eventually a few will tire and tell you to get over it. To move on. To stop clinging on. To stop pining. But it is never that simple. In fact, it is impossible to force yourself to move on. Nowadays I almost never tell people to move on. They will move on when they are well and ready not when I want them to. I don’t have to be afraid of their anguish I just need to be there with them knowing that they will live on – just not at my pace.

I got nudged back into the present as Han shared his second thought: “The next person will never replace your ex.”

Some people will say that this is a sure sign that I do not love Han as much as I loved Tristan or Teng. I don’t think so. It just means that they are not substitutes for one another and that we can choose to cherish the good without being chained to it. Fact is, we have to work at creating our own heavens and I wouldn’t trade away where I am today with Han for what I had then.

Of course I know too that there were others before me, who Han felt – and perhaps still feels – would have made a better partner than I do. Better in bed, better looking, having more of a life, smarter, less temperamental, more sensitive towards him, more interesting, and the list can go on. Initially it was difficult to deal with my own sense of inadequacy when we started our relationship knowing that with some of them there was still a longing for lost connections.

Our exes are irreplaceable. Doesn’t mean our eventual life partner is less than the ones before. He or she is just different and special in that way. To move on doesn’t mean to erase the memories of our exes. It doesn’t mean to demonise them into people we are glad to be rid of. To move on means we cherish the good and the beautiful that was there but recognise too that we need not be prisoners of our past. But we must each take the time to tend to ourselves after a breakup; to come to terms with the mistakes made, to forgive them and even ourselves and grieve our losses. Otherwise we run the danger of repeating the same cycle all over again.

Looking back now, I have learnt that while the future may be different, it doesn’t mean it can’t be just as good or even better. If you come to our home, you will see a shelf of photographs in the dining area. The top two shelves are photos of our families. The third shelf has photos of me with a number of different people. And the last shelf has Han with a number of different people.

Our friends are sometimes surprised when we tell them that the two bottom shelves are our “ex-shelves.” Some find the idea of having pictures of your exes in the home you share with your life partner hilarious. Others think it is downright weird. At the very least, it makes for interesting conversation. I am not sure how we came to the decision to do this. I suppose it helped that we already had their pictures. These relationships mattered to us. They were a key part of our growing up as gay men. Without them we would not be at this point in our lives with one another. I suppose somewhere along the line we decided that if we loved each other we would honour each other’s past and tend to each other’s wounds from that past.

I never did catch Han’s third point about recovering from a breakup. My mind was wondering how my ex was doing these days while I massaged Han’s tired feet.

oh well.. i'm sooooo bored. i just got back from divisoria and sir don's exhibit launching at ccp. all i can say is..

ANG SARAP NG FOOD!!!!!!!!!

wehehehe.. well, they didn't serve full dinners (duh!) but they did serve some delectable cocktails. first we had some potato chips and some mixed nuts (appetizers!).. but of course it progresses..

we had some skewered beef with bell peppers (yummy!), asparagus samosas (not bad!), beef teriyaki rolls (awesome!), chicken teriyaki rolls (low in fat!), smoked tangigue with white cheese (divine!), frozen dark choco balls (richness!).. and i can't remember the others! although we only had cocktails, i felt really full afterwards because the waiters just kept on serving us food, food and more food!!!

and i had 4 glasses of coke lite (less than 4 calories altogether!) and a glass of san mig lite!

the art exhibit was sooooo much fun because it was interactive. they had like a stack of papers and some charcoal pencils on a table and you can just help yourself to them. you can draw and draw and draw.. :D

and i liked this other thing where they had photocopies of pictures.. and then you brush some emulsion over them.. stick 'em on this white cube.. wait until it's partly dry.. and then you can rub off the paper while it's still damp. and the ink (or whatever it's called) is left on the white cube.. it's like heat transfer.. only you don't use heat.. and you don't use studs.. ehehe.. you get the point! :D

sir don's works were very deep! i was totally lost!!! ehehehe.. i couldn't understand the message he was trying to get across.. it was like an almost extinct foreign language.. like GAELIC (yes, there's such a language!).. :D

but well, it was very impressive.. i got to meet some of the other artists too!! they're absolutely cool.. and i got to see (but not meet!) some cute guys as well.. looks like i'm gonna spend more time visiting art galleries and museums.. ALONE! wahahaha.. :D

this morning we went to divisoria.. i met up with jaja and her sister, joyce.. she's soooo nice! she was like our official photographer! ehehe..

we did a bit of shopping.. i wanted to buy some fabrics but it rained earlier in the day so ylaya was a terrible mess.. MUD EVERYWHERE.. so we decided not to buy fabrics.. there's always a next time.. :D

i love divisoria.. GOSH! to be more specific.. i love the boys of 168 mall.. WAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! straight from mainland china.. :D

Movie Critic In The Making

WOW! (sheesh.. i've been using that word at least 100x a day)

i loved "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants". i saw it last night with jona and ziggy. we actually had no plans of watching it.. and ziggy already went home.. but no.. jona and i persuaded him to join us watch it with us at gateway. lucky he did. we saw ourselves in the characters.. of course, i'm LENA(the virginal one!).. jona turned out to be carmen(the latina).. and ziggy.. well.. the flirty one, bridgette! :D

i love gateway mall. it's sooooo accessible.. and it's just near my place too! :D

today jona and i saw 2 movies.. guess where.. DUH!!! GATEWAY!! :D

first we saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (cause i fell asleep the first time i saw it..) and then we saw the "Skeleton Key" which is really not worth watching. The movie was just plain stupid. ahahaha.. The skeleton key was a COMPLETE and TOTAL waste of P120!

oh well.. :D

so that makes 3 movies in 2 days.. or loosely translated.. P360.. ahahaha.. i should be a movie critic.. at least movie critics get to watch movies for free.. and they get paid for it.. isn't it just PERFECT?! :D

I JUST LOVE REALITY SHOWS!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL! ok.. I LOVE BIG BROTHER!!! i've been watching big brother since i was in australia. it's really entertaining!!! i just love it. you just don't know how happy i was when i found out they're bringing big brother here!!! well it's about time!!! i've seen big brother 1,2 and 3 in australia.. and now they're gonna be on their 6th year!!!! wooooohhh!!!!!

BUT!

i got a bit disappointed when i saw the house. it's not that grand. i was actually also expecting the house to be on an isolated space without any contact with the outside world (as it should be!). although they try to stress the fact that the house doesn't have contact with the outside world.. well, i don't think it helps if you see the house with a big building beside it. i mean, DUH!!!

of course i know i couldn't really expect much.. we're in the Philippines!!! oh well.. but i sure hope they build a bigger house in season 2(yes! they build a new house each season!).. and i sure hope they relocate it!!!

and i can't wait to find out what the challenges will be.. and the intruders!!! gosh.. watch out for them.. but it's a bit unfair cause intruders in australia are isolated the same time the big brother housemates enter the house.. i dunno if they did the same thing here.. maybe the intruders haven't even been selected yet!! if that's the case, then it truly is unfair because the *would be* intruders would get the chance to watch the housemates and know what they're like.. and therefore, would have tactics and strategies prepared even before they enter the house.. sheeesh.. i can't wait!!!!! but the intruders won't even enter the house until after 8 housemates have been evicted!! so that's 9 weeks from now..

i wonder which housemates are gonna be nominated for the first eviction.. i reckon that teacher raquel.. or however that's spelled.. sheesh.. she's just too bossy! and she's not even pretty.. i also don't like that jun bob.. ahaha.. how pathetic.. i have a feeling franzen will be nominated by the other housemates too.. but of course he wouldn't be evicted by the voting public as he claims to be the jologs representative.. LOL!! so there.. i think the first nominees for eviction would be raquel, jun bob and franzen..

but they're just my opinions.. we never know! :D

In Sickness and In Health

whaaaaa... i've been sick the past couple of days. when i got home last wednesday, my head was spinning like crazy. i couldn't sleep and my head was pounding like shit. *sigh*

i even missed friday classes. i never miss classes even when i'm sick. but i really couldn't get up so i had no choice. i felt bad i missed class. but oh well. there's always a first time.

i'm actually feeling better now. at least i can stand up and walk around the house. i got to finish my kiddie gown project too for my childrens clothing construction class. i'm gonna be working on my floor plan and logo design for my merchandising design class. finals week coming up!!! too many things to do! i want to play badminton! waaaaaaahhhh...

best friend dj is leaving for davao today.. he'll be gone for a week. he's gonna visit his boyfriend. wish i had a boyfriend too. but people nowadays have nothing but sex on their minds! or at least it seems like it.. :D

this one is my entry for the "RECYCLED" material segment.. this is actually most dear to me because of all the effort i put in.. imagine cutting circles from sack cloth.. and then edging them one by one.. and then sewing them all together.. and the fringes.. THE FRINGES!!!! gosh.. it took me a whole day just to make those fringes from one spool of thread.. and another 4 hours to get them through those tiny eyelets.. :Dif you noticed.. i made a purse/bag for each of my ensemble.. :D

so here.. as promised.. i'm uploading a few more pics taken before and after the fashion show.. i don't have too many pics of my model on the catwalk because my damn camera ran out of battery.. and i couldn't run back to the fashion lab to fetch my spare battery cause i barely have time to dress my model for the next segment.. definitely no time to rush out of the theatre and grab my spare battery pack.. *sigh*
